🍃 Srimangal – The Tea Capital of Bangladesh

If there’s one place in Bangladesh that captures the gentle rhythm of nature, it’s Srimangal. Known as the Tea Capital, this small town in the Moulvibazar district is surrounded by rolling hills, endless tea gardens, and a calm that feels worlds away from city life.

The moment I arrived, the air felt different — cooler, cleaner, filled with the faint scent of tea leaves. From the sound of cicadas to the sight of mist drifting over green valleys, Srimangal is a dream for anyone seeking peace and beauty.

Background & About the Place

Srimangal is located in Moulvibazar District, about 200 km from Dhaka and 75 km from Sylhet city.
It’s home to over 40 tea estates, including some of the oldest in the subcontinent. The region’s unique climate and rainfall make it perfect for producing high-quality tea.

But there’s more to Srimangal than just tea — it’s also home to Lawachara National Park, Madhabpur Lake, and several indigenous communities, including the Monipuri and Khasia. Each adds its own cultural and ecological richness to the area.

Srimangal’s charm lies in its simplicity — quiet roads, smiling locals, and hills that seem to go on forever.

My Experience

My visit to Srimangal started early in the morning, just as the mist was lifting from the tea gardens. I watched workers picking tea leaves with rhythmic precision — baskets on their backs, smiles on their faces.

And of course, no trip to Srimangal is complete without tasting the famous Seven-Layer Tea — each layer a different flavor, stacked like colors in a rainbow.

It’s a place that makes you slow down, breathe deeply, and feel grateful for the beauty around you.
