The Story Behind “Amar Shonar Bangla – A Bangladesh Walkthrough”

They say every book has a heartbeat — mine beats in green and red.
Amar Shonar Bangla – A Bangladesh Walkthrough isn’t just a book; it’s a journey through memories, rivers, and stories that shaped who I am.

What started as sketches and notes during my travels across Sylhet slowly grew into a mission: to showcase the beauty, culture, and soul of Bangladesh in a way the world had never seen before.

Where It All Began

The idea first came to me back in 2012 — but my connection to Bangladesh started long before that.

Since 2007, I’ve been actively involved with a Sylheti community charity called the Greater Sylhet Development and Welfare Council (GSC UK). Working with GSC over the years opened my eyes to the power of heritage, unity, and service. Through community projects, cultural events, and charity work, I learned more about the stories, struggles, and strengths of the Bangladeshi people — both at home and in the diaspora.

That experience helped me build a much deeper connection with my roots. It reminded me that Bangladesh isn’t just a place on the map — it’s a living story of resilience, generosity, and pride.

So when I began travelling back to Bangladesh and documenting its beauty through drone shots, local interviews, and sketches, I wasn’t just observing — I was reconnecting.
From Keane Bridge to Lalakhal, every page I created became a canvas of emotion, gratitude, and rediscovery.

The Creative Journey

Every illustration in the book carries a story. Some are inspired by real places I’ve visited; others are shaped by the tales passed down through generations. Using different styles,  I aimed to blend realism with artistic warmth — creating visuals that feel alive.

Many scenes took months to complete. I’d visit a location, take many photos and drone shots, then spend nights redrawing them until I found the perfect light, mood, and rhythm.

This process wasn’t easy — between research, design, and publishing, there were moments of exhaustion and doubt. But every time I saw a finished page, I was reminded why I started: to honour Bangladesh.

What the Book Represents

This book is more than a collection of pictures. It’s a tribute — to the history, nature, and people of Bangladesh.

For those who grew up abroad, Amar Shonar Bangla offers a window into the motherland — its laughter, resilience, and timeless rhythm. For those back home, it’s a mirror of pride, reminding us of what makes our land so unique.

It’s also a message to the next generation: you don’t have to forget where you come from to move forward.

What’s Next

This is only the beginning. I’m already planning new editions, interactive maps, and educational projects to help schools and young readers connect with Bangladesh in creative ways.

I’d also love to turn these stories into short animations and digital experiences, allowing people to walk through Bangladesh from anywhere in the world.

Join the Journey

I believe every Bangladeshi carries a piece of Shonar Bangla in their heart.
